We know when no means no!

“Whitespace are a pleasure to work with and their flexibility and openness, together with the freshness of their creative and technical input, allowed us to take great steps forwards in making some very controversial and difficult subjects accessible to a wide cross-section of the public.”

In Scotland, only 2.9% of rapes recorded by the police lead to a conviction, and the humiliation experienced by female complainers in court is well documented. The myth persists that only rape by a stranger counts as ‘real rape’, Rape Crisis Scotland has brought the successful ‘this is not an invitation to rape me' campaign that ran in New York in the 1990’s to Scotland. It is a ‘cry for justice’ and exists to confront these attitudes and invite members of the public to raise their voices and join in the debate that can contribute towards legislative change.

Whitespace were briefed to build the campaign website to support an outdoor advertising campaign. The website acted as the key forum for debate. The message-board on the website has generated literally thousands of largely un-moderated comments voicing opinion from all sides of the argument and strong buy in from research respondents:

  • 65% agreed that they would talk about the subject with their family as a result of seeing the images, rising to 74% amongst those who were aware of the campaign
  • 61% would consider their own attitudes to rape

The website itself achieved an average of 1,035 unique visitors per day over the outdoor campaign period.

The campaign went on to win an award at the Fresh Digital Awards and delighted our client who said:
